Optimistic October – 2021: RECHARGE

A pause. A soft space in the middle of life’s demands.

The most important thing on my to-do list today? Recharge. I’m working a night shift later, and if there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s that sometimes—rest is productivity. Yesterday marked Day 3 of my Optimistic October challenge, and while I didn’t manage to write a blog entry, I’m not offering any apologies. It was a Sunday. A day for the Lord. And I gave it to Him fully—with quiet moments, reflection, and prayer. No screens, no rushing—just stillness, soul-level peace, and the kind of silence that listens more than it speaks. This morning, I woke up at 5:30 AM—still sleepy but gently determined—and called our unit to ask if I could swap my day shift to a night one. And thank God, our floor leader said yes. That small mercy felt like an answered prayer before the sun had even fully risen.

The rest of the morning unfolded simply. I shared breakfast with my housemates—nothing fancy, just warm food and warm company. That kind of quiet joy that fills you up from the inside out. I called my family back home, which always steadies me. Hearing their voices, even across oceans, brings my heart back to center. Afterwards, I gave myself permission to slow down. I curled up and watched three episodes of The Squid Game—no spoilers, please!—and promised myself I’d continue the series after I recover from tonight’s shift. That, in itself, felt like a little gift. A pause. A soft space in the middle of life’s demands.

So that’s today. A day without grandeur or fanfare—but full of small wins, soft gratitude, and rest that feels like a reset. It may not look like much on paper, but to me, it’s everything I needed. And for now, that’s more than enough.

Until the next blog,
x Anj ❤
