(WARNING: LONGER-PHOTO HEAVY POST)

My fiancée and I visited the England’s largest national park last week as a splurge treat for my birthday. When he asked me how I would want to spend my birthday, my answer was a get away into nature. We spent 4 days and 3 nights there and I kind of regret it of not making the stay much longer. I can stay there forever! How I wish I can be magically transported back now while writing this. From beautiful walks in the Lake District to cosy cabins, rolling scenery and fresh, local cuisine, the Lake District is ripe for staycation adventures.

Getting there from Wolverhampton, we hopped on a train to Oxenholme Rail Station. From that station, we then transferred a train to Windermere. We booked in All Seasons Guesthouse– a small traditional stone built house, ideally located in the heart of Windermere village just 200 yards from the train & bus station and short walk to the Lake and Bowness-on-Windermere. The room is very basic with just what you need and nothing more. We were only there a few days so that wasn’t an issue. As a first timer, I am glad that we chose Windermere as our first area to visit. There are four towns within the Lake District: Keswick, Ambleside, Windermere (though this is often referred to as a village), and Bowness-on-Windermere. The word “Windermere” is synonymous with the Lake District, mainly because it’s the name of England’s longest natural lake, and the national park’s most famous.

Day 1 – Windermere. A wonderful lakeshore walk through woodland and parkland. For me this place is like those places straight out of fairytale.

You know why I love our day 1 so much? Because there was no pressure with time. I just enjoyed it appreciating the beauty of the Lake Windermere. A peaceful retreat, a time where I am just happy to be alive.

Day 2 – Bowness-on-Windermere. We easily reach Bowness-on-Windermere by line 599 bus from the Windermere station. Once we arrived in there, I cannot close my mouth from astonishment. Bowness-on-Windermere is the heart of the national park and I got the immediate sense that the town caters to a transient, affluent crowd .

There variety of pubs and restaurants where you can eat here but my favourite one was in Urban Food House. Their croissant is heavenly delicious.

Moving forward, when day 1 was all about exploring by foot, day 2 was by motor boat. Yes! It was an excellent way to explore the place in comfort. We hired our own boat through Bowness bay marina online which cost 58£, with 60£ deposit (2 adults) for 2 hours. It was such an unforgettable experience. Who says you cannot enjoy luxurious thing in a budget?

I am forced to divide this post into two because of all the photos I am going to share on my next blog, the Day 3 and Day 4 Lake District Adventure which is my favourite. So, please also check them out once it’s been published. Thank you for reading.

Much Love,

 ❤ Anj
