A Review with Heart and Hunger
📍 Fiume Italian Restaurant
Tucked away like a love letter folded into the corner of a quiet afternoon, Fiume Italian Restaurant offered my partner and me yet another dining experience that felt both intimate and indulgent. This wasn’t my first time at Fiume—far from it. I’ve been here multiple times, for different reasons and sometimes for no reason at all. It has quietly become my favourite go-to spot near me in Wolverhampton, especially when I don’t feel like heading out all the way to Birmingham. There’s a comfort in returning to a place that already knows the rhythm of your cravings.
From the very first bite to the last lingering sip, this visit—like the others—was not just a meal. It was a shared moment wrapped in olive oil, sea salt, and good conversation.

calamari fritti
We began with the calamari fritti, lightly dusted and fried to golden perfection. Each ring had a satisfying crunch on the outside, with tender calamari that practically melted on the tongue. Served with a tangy tomato dip and a wedge of lemon, the dish balanced the richness with a bright, fresh zing. It was simple, but in that simplicity, it sang.

Crostini Toscani
Next came a rustic platter of toasted bread served with thick slivers of butter and a side of pâté and nuts drizzled in golden oil. The bread was crisped to just the right level—enough to hold its shape without cutting the roof of your mouth—and the butter melted into the warm slices like old love letters warming in the sun.

prawn and chorizo pasta
For mains, I opted for the prawn and chorizo pasta, which brought together the briny sweetness of the seafood and the smoky depth of the chorizo, dancing in a robust, tomato-based sauce. It was a dish that knew how to tell a story: bold, warm, and layered.

creamy salmon spaghetti
My partner chose the creamy salmon spaghetti, rich and comforting, with every bite echoing soft murmurs of cream, garlic, and tender flakes of fish. No one said a word for several minutes—we were too immersed in the flavors to speak.

We didn’t order dessert today. Not because the menu lacked temptation, but because we were already full—physically and emotionally. There’s something sacred about stopping when you’re satisfied, when your body says, this is enough. And so we lingered in the afterglow of a meal well-spent, sipping still water, tracing the soft light reflected off our glasses, and letting the joy settle.
drinks

Good food is not just about taste. It’s about time.
Fiume’s elegance isn’t loud—it’s thoughtful. Every dish is plated with intention, every flavor curated to be enjoyed slowly. You could tell the staff cared, even in the smallest details—from the napkin branding to the pepper grinder that stood like a tiny guard beside our mineral water.
But here’s what I took home beyond the meal: Good food is not just about taste. It’s about time. About sitting down without checking your phone. About looking across the table and thinking, I’m glad it’s you I get to share this with. About learning when to indulge and when to pause. When to speak and when to simply… enjoy.

So if you find yourself at Fiume—whether to celebrate, to reflect, or simply because you’re too tired to cook—come hungry. Not just for pasta and cocktails, but for presence. For laughter. For the kind of peace that comes from letting the world wait while you make space for what truly matters.
Not From Today—But Worth Sharing:

pizza
These two photos were taken during a previous visit, one of those spontaneous meals when we just needed something good and familiar. A thin, charred-crust pizza topped with rocket, cherry tomatoes, and delicate shavings of cheese—light, flavorful, and exactly what we needed that day.

dessert
And then there was dessert: a rich scoop of dark chocolate gelato, topped with whipped cream, drizzled with chocolate sauce, and sprinkled with dried raspberries and white chocolate curls. The kind of dessert that doesn’t just finish a meal—it makes it linger in your memory.

A returning favourite for a reason. Highly recommended for romantic lunches, quiet celebrations, or slow weekends when you want to fall in love with food again—without the need to travel far from Wolverhampton.
(No dessert needed today. But memory served one anyway.)
