GONE

Days have passed, yet memories remain, Like whispered words against the rain. What once was ours has turned to dust, And promises have surrendered to rust.
Time moves along, indifferent to sorrow, Stealing yesterday, promising tomorrow. Chances once held within our grasp Have slipped like sand from fingers clasped.
Love once flourished, fierce and bright, Now wanders through the folds of night. A heart remembers what it cannot keep, While yesterday lies buried deep.
Gone are the days we called our own, Gone are the dreams we might have known. And you, once cherished, now belong To memories where you linger on.
Perhaps forgetting is too much to ask, When even time falls short of that task. For some things leave, yet never depart, And absence learns the shape of a heart.
So let the years reclaim their due, The words unsaid, the dreams of you. What once was love has met its last— And you are now a stranger in my past.
